What is an implant?

An implant is an artificial tooth root that occupies the position that your natural tooth once held. The implants will support the new teeth.

What are implants made of?

Implants are made from titanium, which is a natural occurring metal element that is biocompatable with the human body.

It has been used in the body for treating hundreds of thousands of patients over the past 30 years.

How much will the implants cost?

The investment varies according to your personal situation. It is impossible to give an exact answer to this question without first examining you. You may not be a candidate, not everyone can have implants. The doctor will be able to give you the information after an initial examination. It is important for you to know that you do not necessarily need an implant for each missing tooth. But the cost can range between $ 5 000.00 for a single tooth, and up to $ 30 000.00 for a complete upper or lower reconstruction.

How will I benefit from dental implant?

The benefits of implant treatment include appearance, the enhanced ability to chew and enjoy your food, and often protection of your remaining teeth and jaw bone. Dental implants offer many benefits never before available for the treatment of missing teeth.

Is this procedure painful?

Implants are placed surgically into the jaw bones in a very gentle fashion. Care is taken to be very kind to the tissues involved. Most of our patients tell us that they experience no more discomfort than during a routine dental procedure.

Will insurance cover the implant treatment?

Depending on the type of work you need to have done, the insurance system may cover all, part, or none of the treatment. We feel that it is important for you to make your decision based on what is best for your oral and overall health.

How long do implants last?

Implants have been shown to last over fifteen years in over 90% of the cases. We have every indication that they will last much longer, time will tell.

Will dental implants work for me?

At the time of examination the doctor will do a thorough examination of your mouth to determine your dental needs. He will then make a recommendation based on your personal needs and clinical situation. At this time all your questions can be answered.

How long will the treatment take?

This depends on your particular treatment. The treatment is completed in phases ranging from five to nine months, but can be longer.

How many visits will this treatment take?

The number of visits will depend on the treatment you'll need. The doctor can address these issues with you at your consultation appointment.

Will I ever be without my teeth?

This depends on your situation. Most patients can leave the office wearing some type of temporary prosthesis.

We advise our patients with full dentures to go without their prosthesis for ten to fourteen days.

After that you can wear them comfortably with a soft liner until the final teeth are placed. The success of your treatment can be compromised if the implants are "loaded" or are subject to early pressures from chewing or your prosthesis.

Is it important to take care of the implants after treatment is completed?

Yes! maintaining the implants will help to assure the long term success of your treatment.

You will be responsible for daily plaque removal which can be accomplished through brushing around your restoration.

Your Dentists will show you how to properly care for your implants. You must visit your dentist every 6 months for maintenance appointments.

It is also important to know that although implants may give a very long service, the teeth that go on top of the implants may need replacement in time.
